IP Protection and Anti-Corruption: A New Approach

Categories: Anti-corruption, Intellectual Property

IP theft and corruption are major issues for multinationals. Counterfeit parts and pirated materials can lead to inferior products and expensive lawsuits; trade secret theft diminishes competitive advantage; and corruption harms operations, business and reputation.

Beginning in October, CREATe is making it easier for multinationals and their suppliers to reduce counterfeiting, piracy, trade secret theft and corruption.

We are launching practical, scalable and cost-effective online assessments, training and other resources designed to benchmark and improve processes for safeguarding intellectual property (IP) and preventing corruption, particularly in high-risk markets.

The CREATe solution includes:

  • Confidential benchmarking of current practices
  • Assessments and ratings of capacity to protect IP and prevent corruption
  • Training and resources to improve protection and compliance builds on a company’s existing management systems to better understand its capacity to protect IP and to prevent corruption, and then measures and improves that capacity over time. Elements include:

Step 1: The Online Self-Assessment

The first part of the service is an online self-assessment to enable companies and suppliers to measure the effectiveness of their IP and anti-corruption compliance systems based on CREATe’s leading practices guidelines.

Step 2: Independent Verification

Once the self-assessment is complete, CREATe or qualified firms conduct an independent review of compliance systems.

Step 3: Improvement Plan

After the evaluations, companies and their suppliers receive an improvement plan which includes training on how to better manage risks related to intellectual property theft and corruption.
